Mikelangelo at Leadbelly

Sat 18th November 2017
42 King St, Newtown

Mikelangelo is one of the true originals in the Australian music scene, blazing his own path and pursuing his creative spirit wherever it may lead. The constant is the quality of the songs, his powerful delivery, his effortless showmanship and that unmistakable voice, so deep that it envelops the whole room. With 12 albums and 25 years of international touring under his belt, Mikelangelo has put together his first ‘Best Of’ show, including songs from his ongoing group of 17 years The Black Sea Gentlemen; to tunes from his latest garage-swamp band Spectres Of Love; selections from his Surf’n’Western band The Tin Star and his cinematic pop album City Of Dreams; masterful interpretations of the works of Cave, Waits and Cohen; with some Presley and Cash thrown in for good measure, and perhaps even a song or two from his very first bands when starting out as a starry eyed teenager. Mikelangelo brings these songs together with compelling and hilarious stories from a life on the road, from Melbourne to Montreal, Darwin to Dublin, New York to Budapest to London and beyond as he has shared his music with audiences in theatres, festivals, pubs, opera houses, country halls, cinemas, verandahs, galleries, arts centres and arenas.

Mikelangelo will be joined by guest musicians for this show, including Pip Branson aka Rufino from the Black Sea Gentlemen.
